I'm new here and fairly new to handguns. As the charts I have seen on the glow website indicate significant loss of brightness in short time periods, even using fully charged v10, what has been your experience concerning the effectiveness of the brightness at various discharge timeframes? Say, after 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 5 hours, 10 hours, longer? Also, fully charged, the gid v10 may be "too" bright to be effective. Again, what are the experiences? If it is too bright, how long before it is no longer too bright?
I have found that bright and shiny white dots help me considerably in less than bright but not dark situations (like poorly lit indoor range conditions). What is the effect of gid v10 in those situations? Better or worse than just good white dots? One more- Has anyone looked across a dark roon at the mussle end of a v10 treated weapon? Is so, how illuminated is the weapon? Thanks for any feedback. |

Glow in the dark gunsights are never going to be too bright. V10 sight dots are too small to put off enough reflection to be seen from the muzzle end.
GID sights are useless in dimly lit situations. However, they do not hinder your white dots. So paint white first, then cover with V10. The white will help in dimly lit conditions and the glow in perfectly dark. In perfectly dark conditions with dark adjusted eyes, V10 is usable for about 2 hours from a full charge. Its usefulness depends largely on how you are going to use your weapon. Tell us more about your situation and I may be able to help further.

Thanks Danny, for the quick and very specific reply. I have a pistol for home defense. It is only me and my wife and noone else has the keys. If I wake up in the middle of the night with "people" in the house I would like to be able to aim without turning on the lights - they might even be in my bedroom. That's my application.
Unfortunately it doesn't look like glowinthedark would be applicable for this application unless the invaders broke in within 2 hours of lights out. Please change my mind if you can, and either way, thanks again. |

Nope, I can not change your mind. It is not really appropriate for home defense.
There is one exception. A customer built an under the bed gun safe and installed UV LED lighting that was always on. Therefore, his GID weapon sights were always at full charge.

I would never try to shoot in the dark when I can't see my target.
I'm interested in the paint because it WAY cheaper than buying new sights. I have troube at certain shooting ranges and certain targets. My front and rear sights are both black. They are very hard to see against certain backgrounds. Using a flashlight makes the front sight come alive, but that may not always be an option. I'm looking forward to trying this product. |

Nonesense Skylighter. I get 6-8 hours of visibility which is all the dark time I need. Doesn't have to be that bright to know where you are pointing. V7 has been good enough for years on all pistols and revolvers at home or in the woods. Charging before a concealed carry walk takes 2 minutes in the car before I emerge. Use several coats well dried each time and clear fingernail polish. Can't wait to try the V10 but frankly this stuff goes a long way and lasts a very long time. I think it is better than you say though I understand that the company must look at worst case scenarios. 2 minutes of charging before bed on either pistol or revolver chosen for the nighttime and it has nevel failed yet. Just apply it as directed with several coats, drying times and fingernail polish finish. I would not want a brighter sight at night though I do dimly backlight all entrances to where I sleep whether bedroom or tent. I would always want a silouette of any threat between me and the nightlite. Who would shoot in total darkness, even if you can find total darkness. |
