Hi all,
I am working on a project that includes painting existing glassware (glasses, pitchers, plates, etc) using a glass paint (Pebeo Vitrea 160) that you bake in the over at 325f for 40 minutes to permanently adhere the paint making it user and dishwasher safe. I would like to use either the glow paint or powder (I'd prefer to use the paint) but am unsure whether heating it in an oven when painted on a glass surface (rather than mixed into the glass as in glassblowing) has any negative effects on either the paint or the glassware. Has anyone tried this or have any ideas whether it is safe to "bake" the glow paint? Thanks very much! |

Why not check out this old dialogue. It helped me know what my options were, sometime ago. Hope it helps.

I just now mixed two colors of the water friendly varieties of glow powder with iridescent Pebeo Vitrea 160 (also water based) in a 50/50 ratio. I've filled in some shallow indentations in a piece of kiln-worked glass I had lying around for testing. Tomorrow I'll bake it (has to sit for 24 hours per the paint instructions) and post the results.

Works great. I mixed a 50/50 pebeo vitrea 160 (iridescent) with 2 colors/kinds of glow powder: Ultra blue coated and non-coated blue. Filled in glass indentations formed from previous kiln firing, let sit overnight and baked according to Pebeo instructions. Charged in sunlight and glows brilliantly! Don't know how much glow you'd get on a flat surface since that would depend on how much powder you could mix with the paint and how thick you could get it.

Spacehead: my digital camera is a contentious piece of....maybe I can borrow my neighbors. The piece is at her house on the wall now. I'll see about taking my tripod and snapping a couple. Thanks for asking.
