Hey,
Redhat here with another way to make 3D stars. If you have a ceiling or wall that permits it, try painting map tacks - those tacks with little balls on the ends. I got a bunch of white ones from here: http://www.latitudesmapstore.net/18-...ns--whi18.html They come in 1/4", 1/8" and 1/16" diameters and all colors too. Just prepaint with GID paint and stick'em up... ![]() RH |

Hey,
A set of nifty map tack painting booths can be made with some stuff from the hardware store. At the plumbing section, get a 5 foot length of PVC pipe (I used 1/2" dia.). While there pick up a bunch of PVC end caps that will fit on the pipe. At the homewares section, pick up some corks that will fit in the pipe. At the small tools section get a pair of curved locking clamps (hemostat like device). Make GID powder bottles by cutting the PVC pipe into 2 inch sections and placing an end cap on for the bottom and a cork for the "lid". Painting the map tacks: Fill about a half inch or so of GID powder in the bottle. Take a map tack and stick it in the bottom of the bottle's cork lid. With a small brush or squeeze bottle coat the ball of the tack in glue, GID solvent or paint (try a fluorescent paint for an interesting effect) Stick the cork back on the bottle and rotate the bottle slowly a few times, coating the sticky ball end of the tack in GID powder. Tap a couple of times to shake loose any excess powder. It should come out perfectly uniformly dusted if done right. With the curved locking clamps, grap the tack out of the cork and stick in the appropriate location in your star mural. The clamps let you place the tack without touching the ball end. You can make a whole set of bottles for your GID powders as well as a few for mixtures. ![]() RH |
