To eliminate the cracks of light coming in your windows, go to the fabric store and purchase some Blackout Fabric. It is what drapes are lined with and it really makes the room DARK. Think hotel room dark. Get enough to more than cover the entire window area so the pieces can be overlapped. If you are going to be having people over to your house often, you could screw some smallish hooks above the window and grommets in the blackout fabric so it can be hung up to block out light. Then use the ol dimmer switch.
